[00:00] A Matter of Perspective: The Invisible Apple

Imagine, for a moment, that you are holding an invisible apple. How you perceive this apple depends entirely on your perspective. The same goes for Artificial Intelligence. For decades, our perception of AI has been shaped by stories, myths, and movies. But today, I want us to reframe that perspective. I want us to look at AI not as an invisible, magical entity, but as a tangible tool built by human hands and driven by human imagination.

[02:15] Demystifying Artificial Intelligence vs. AGI

Let's demystify what we actually mean when we say 'AI'. We often confuse Narrow AI with Artificial General Intelligence, or AGI. Narrow AI is everywhere—it's the algorithm opening the automatic doors at the grocery store, recommending your next YouTube video, or helping a space station dock autonomously. It excels at specific tasks. AGI, on the other hand, is the sci-fi dream of a machine with human-like general understanding. We are living in the era of Narrow AI, and it is crucial to understand its practical applications rather than fearing a hypothetical AGI.

[06:40] When Science Fiction Becomes Engineering Reality

Think back to the movies that shaped our childhoods—Minority Report, Elysium, Total Recall. We saw gesture-controlled interfaces, exoskeletons, and self-driving Johnny Cabs. Back then, they were just special effects. Today, they are engineering realities. I often say that science fiction is our technological roadmap. Almost 80% of the futuristic concepts we marveled at on screen are being prototyped in labs right now, turning imagination into deployable technology.

[10:40] The Emerging 20%: Avatars, Biometrics, and Spatial Displays

But what about the remaining 20%? That is where the frontier lies. We are seeing the rise of digital humans, advanced biometrics, and spatial computing. Through platforms like manav.ai, we are crossing the uncanny valley and creating digital avatars that can interact with us in deeply empathetic ways. This isn't just about faster computers; it's about fundamentally changing how humans and machines interface in physical and spatial environments.

[13:10] Stage Interaction with PIA

To show you what I mean, I want to introduce you to PIA, a digital assistant we've developed. [Interaction on stage]. Notice how PIA doesn't just execute commands; she anticipates needs and augments human potential. This is cognitive augmentation. These assistants are not here to replace our thinking; they are here to amplify our capabilities, freeing us to focus on creativity and complex problem-solving.

[14:45] Message to Youth: Co-Creating with AI

My message to all the students here today is simple: AI is not a threat to your jobs. It is a brush, and you are the artist. Your generation has the unprecedented opportunity to co-create with this technology. Embrace AI literacy. Learn to harness it. Use these tools to solve real-world problems, build the future, and shape a world where humanity and technology grow together.
